Populærvitenskapelig sammendrag
Nepal is passing through the epidemiological transition with increasing number of non-communicable disease (NCD) related deaths. However, little attention has been paid to predisposing risk factors such as overweight, obesity or physical inactivity in Nepal. This study aims to determine the prevalence of overweight, obesity, physical inactivity and associated risk factors among women in Eastern Nepal.
We will conduct a cross-sectional survey of 400 randomly selected women aged 18-49 years in Bhadrapur municipality, Eastern Nepal. After consent, we will interview each woman using a questionnaire including socio-demographic, socio economic variables and questions on physical activity. We will measure weight and height to calculate body mass index (BMI) and objectively assess physical activity using a pedometer. This information may help in formulating and implementing policies with the aim to reduce NCDs.
