Tittel

Basic and clinical pharmacology of antiepileptic drugs

Sammendrag

Topics related to clinical pharmacology and -kinetics, special patient populations and therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM): Neurological and psychiatric disorders are major diseases and have a major impact on many patients quality of life. Focus on these therapeutic areas is of importance as pharmacological treatment is long-term, the therapeutic ranges between efficacy and tolerability are narrow, the pharmacological variability is extensive, and many patients with epilepsy suffer from psychiatric comorbid disorders. Treatment options of these disorders have developed during the last years, and new groups of patients are introduced to pharmacological treatment, as the increased use of antiepileptic drugs in psychiatry. Focus on improved treatment of epilepsy throughout Europe has recently been elucidated by WHO.
