Vitenskapelig sammendrag
The overall objective of this project is to contribute to the development of better methods for assessing food and nutrition security. This study will establish a quantitative food frequency questionnaire for use in illiterate population groups eating from shared bowls as in rural Mali, West Africa. This will entail developing, validating and using such a questionnaire in order to assess the food intake in the population group. We will also look at the relationship between a simple food count and nutritional adequacy in this area in order to confirm this easier and simpler approach as an indicator for food consumption. The study will focus on how different variables which determine food security (food production, food availability, socio-economic factors) influences the measured food intake and the dietary diversity in order to conclude whether food intake or dietary diversity can be used as an indicator of food security in the area. It will be an important contribution to the development of nutritional indicators which are required as research tools as well as tools for development
Formålet med prosjektet er å vurdere ernæringssituasjonen i et ruralt område i Mali, inkludert å utvikle metoder for å måle matinntak. I samarbeid med maliske forskere ved INRSP og en malisk utviklingsorganisasjon (AIDEB) har flere undersøkelser vært gjennomført
