Sammendrag

This project will shed light on factors that encourage and discourage school attendance and performance among children in rural Namibia. It will analyse rural children, their families, school. teachers and the local context inorder to get a comprehensive understanding of the problem. The project will reveal to what extent the following levels have a bearing on children's school performance and attendence. 1. The household- socioeconomic and educational background 2. The school - leraning milieu, teachers educational level and attitude, language of teaching during the first grades 3. The local context - type of location, local resoruces, settlement pattern, infrastructure
