Sammendrag

Guiding and facilitating the development of students' education and research experiences on different level of university programs is very little explored. The focus in this study is the academic supervisors and the students' perspective on the value of academic supervision. The role of the academic supervisor requires multiple skills and abilities. Thus, there is a need to study several aspects of the academic supervision to improve research career opportunities for students and educators at the university. Previous research suggests that there is a need to study the students' attitudes to and knowledge of research training in order to fulfil the need for more research. It is also important to study the nature of the student' supervisor relationship; 1) the right to effective supervision and research education; 2) the responsibilities as well as the 3) functions of supervisor.
