Tittel

Landing sites - a further-field pursuit of new tools for choreography

Vitenskapelig sammendrag

Landing Sites takes myself and three MA students of choreography on a week's field trip/residency to the Revisible Destiny Lofts, Mitaka, Tokyo, to explore the body's capacity to co-create event-spaces in any given environment, and to find tools to do so. A perceptual approach to 'attention', 'decision' and 'action' is a key element of this study. The lofts are the creation of the artist/architect duo, Arakawa and Gins. They are dedicated to Hellen Keller and embody the complex discourses and schemas of their book "Architectural Body", 2002. By cohabiting a unique built environment designed to reorientate the body and its capacity to apprehend and shape the world, the aim is to develop perceptual, cognitive and kinaesthetic tools for choreographic projects and interdisciplinary collaborations - dance- wise, stage-wise and otherwise.
