Tittel

Drink, drugs and the immigrant population in Norway

Sammendrag

The project will analyse alcohol and drug use by ethnic minority adolescents and adults and problems resulting from such use. The project aims to shed light on variations in the use of alcohol and drugs between ethnic minorities, explain these differences and whether problems related to drinking and drug taking co-vary with ethnicity. The main aim is to facilitate action, including effective information, to reduce and prevent alcohol and drug related problems in different ethnic categories. In 2008, SIRUS was awarded a concession to analyse a database on the health of immigrants compiled by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (FHI) and University of Oslo in 2002 based on surveys of the five biggest immigrant communities in Oslo. A project is planned using qualitative techniques to learn more about how ethnic Norwegians and ethnic minorities influence each other's drug use in social situations.
