With TypeCraft language experts can freely access grammatically glossed text examples from more than 200 languages. Annotated material can be taken form TypeCraft in order to integrate them into articles or reports. After login, the TypeCraft editor can be used to create freely linguistically annotated texts TypeCraft stores this material from where it can be retrieved. Texts and their annotation can be searched, but also so-called meta-information, such as who has created the text and when was it created. The system also allows its users to create information about their data on the TypeCraft wiki. To create typological language templates and short sketch grammars are two ways in which the TypeCraft user can make her/his data known to the general public on the TypeCraft wiki.
Texts as well as annotations stored in TypeCraft are in Unicode. Annotated data can be exported to standard text editors (WORD, Open Office and LaTex)as well as to XML format. TC has been designed for projects on minority languages, it features an intuitive user interface and allows distributive usage. The application is written in Java using PostgreSQL database. It is hosted at a server owned by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim.
