Manufacturing Network 4.0

Vitenskapelig sammendrag

Industry 4.0 has quickly established itself as a term that describes the next generation of industrial companies, characterized by having adopted the Internet and ICT to create fully integrated production with high competitiveness. These solutions must ensure the development of innovation, expertise and collaboration capability between companies in a network. Such full integration is a major challenge for advanced and complex products to be delivered in small quantities.

Four leading manufacturing companies, two clusters and logistics environments associated with Molde University College and NTNU will address this challenge in the research project Manufacturing Network 4.0. The industry partners are all leaders in their industries: Brunvoll, Ekornes, Kleven and Pipelife, and with iKuben and Norwegian Rooms that strong regional industrial clusters. The project will develop expertise and results to increase companies and Norwegian industry's ability to find their specific solutions within a global Industry 4.0 concept.

The project acknowledges the importance of manufacturing expertise for long-term innovation capability. Hence, the project will increase understanding of how innovation takes place in production networks, where key issues are sourcing, localization, and development of new services. Industry 4.0 needs new concepts for planning and managing the production of innovative and unique products both in the factory and in networks. Manufacturing Network 4.0 aims to develop knowledge and methodologies that contribute to future sustainability.

Manufacturing Network 4.0 is a four-year competence project, where 20% is funded by the participating companies and 80% through funding from the Norwegian Research Council's user-driven Research based Innovation (BIA). Project manager is Molde University College, and the project is carried out in close cooperation with NTNU Department of Production and Quality Engineering, SINTEF and Møreforsking Molde, starting in autumn 2015.
