The primary objective is to study the conditions under which learning experiences in out-of-school settings can be made relevant for learning in lower secondary schools (ungdomsskolen).Research shows that the teacher is a key person in making out-of-scho ol literacy and learning practices relevant in border-crossing activities. Nevertheless, studies have so far mainly focused on students. Taking this shortcoming as a point of departure, the planned project will study how teachers make the diverse and hete rogeneous literacy practices of young people relevant in the classroom activities. Secondary objectives will be to explore how young peoples experiences from outside of school can play a role for increasing motivation and learning outcomes in school, and to make a contribution to educational theory and research by developing a more systematic and detailed knowledge about the differences and similarities between learning processes in different contexts.
