This application is a result of the development of a promising partnership between California State University Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) and University College of Southeast Norway (USN). Based on mutual visits and teaching on narrative writing and social work, we are currently expanding our co-operation.
Our overall aim is to establish and develop partnerships of high quality, to the benefit of both institutions. We expect to be able to develop joint curriculum, joint education on both Bachelor and Master levels and improve practice across borders in collaboration with various enterprises. Ultimately, we expect this project to form a solid base for a common application for long term support from the Partnership Program.
The application contains:
- Activities to strengthen partnership in higher education on Bachelor and Master levels as well as research, through mutual student and teacher activities;
- Increase collaboration with enterprises in the public, private and volunteer sector through practice placement opportunities for students, as well as comparative studies focusing on social innovation and social entrepreneurship;
- Increase mobility of students and teachers through concrete exchange proposals involving both students and teachers and focusing on comparative studies of the welfare state and its actors, giving teaching opportunities at both institutions.
The project aims at showing how social work and preventative care are challenged within different welfare regimes and preconditions. We intend to exploit complementary and reciprocal experiences and approaches by comparing USA and Norway on
* provision of welfare state services - by public or private and voluntary actors;
* coverage strategies - by preventative and long term services or focus on crisis management
* the impact of a multicultural society - experiences gained over short or long time.
* to enhance internationalization and to implement innovation in practice at both institutions
