Phenomenology in Educational Research: Controversies, Contradictions, Confluences

Sammendrag

By way of educational examples and theoretical reflections, I will present and briefly discuss my interpretation of the (onto-) epistemological structures of respectively the Anglo- American and the German constructions of education; curriculum/ Didaktik and education / Pädagogik. Secondly, I will briefly explore the differences between phenomenology as an applied philosophy and phenomenology as a methodical and existential practice and the characteristics of the latter. I will conclude this part by letting the German/Continental interpretation of education and phenomenology as method “meet” and try to point to differences, tensions and agreements. Eventually I intend to suggest ways of teaching phenomenology in education.
