Tittel

Oil spill containment by use of air bubbles - Meso-scale test tank experiments

Sammendrag

The tests described in this report are the third stage of the experimental work in the “Bubble Oil Boom” project. The goal of the project has been to investigate the potential of wide bubble barriers for use as a countermeasure in an oil spill situation. This report describes the testing of two concepts for use of air bubbles in deflecting drifting oil on the sea surface. The tested concepts are:• Air bubbles used in combination with a conventional boom• Air bubbles used as a stand-alone barrier Currents generated by the rising bubbles have been documented, and the ability of both concepts to confine a slick of oil has been tested at different ambient current speeds.
