Defining improvisational music therapy: Development of a treatment guide for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)

Sammendrag

I will describe the background and development of a flexible treatment guide for music therapists working with children with ASD using an improvisational approach. Based on a survey among music therapists from 11 countries experienced in this field, we found unique and essential core principles for improvisational music therapy characterizing an international consensus of this approach. The treatment guide can be used to assess treatment fidelity, and to facilitate future research, clinical practice, and training.
