Tittel

Ethical dilemmas and ambiguities in theoretical sampling and saturation when doing CGT with vulnerable groups of children.

Sammendrag

Power calculation determine the sample size in quantitative studies, while we in qualitative studies usually use the term 'saturation'. The term 'saturation' is often blurry or vague described except for in Grounded Theory and Contructed Grounded Theory (CGT). However, even in CGT we have found it hard to face the theoretical sampling and saturation guidelines when doing research with young and vulnerable children. In this paper we identify and discuss ethical dilemmas between the recognition of children as citizens and their right to know and participate in decisions important to them versus the methodological procedures within CGT and the Norwegian legal regulations and requirements. Our conclusion is: children first. We examplify how methodological requirements can be adapted to secure both ethical standards and transparence when doing research. Legal regulations and requirement need to be continuously discussed, reviewed and converted.
