This study presents a qualitative empirical small scale study focusing on how children (4–6 years) and preschool teachers may engage in talking together about aesthetic themes in the kindergarten. The study is based on qualitative focus group interviews with children, carried out by preschool teachers. The study builds on aesthetic and pedagogical theory perspectives, as well as relevant research in the field. An interpretative and descriptive analysis resulted in two broad main themes, one about the concept of art, the other about fantasy versus reality. Finally, the results are discussed and some im- plications are drawn, including the aspect of cultural formation, and the importance of the preschool teachers for promoting such reflective conversations.
