Sammendrag

The overall ambition of RetPro is to establish a practice-based supportive framework for teacher education (TE) in which PSTs are provided opportunities to develop professional teaching repertoires in a space defined as the rehearsal room (RR). This approach implies a systematic redefinition and restructuring of TE to implement the RR as an explorative analytic space, and rehearsal as a tool for learning to teach and for TE research. In light of the current changes to TE in Norway, building on the insights from a former project and wrestling to understand how best to bridge the gap between theory and practice, RetPro will develop RR as a conceptual space between practicum schools and teacher education at campus. We envision that RR becomes a space where PSTs move back and forth between enacting and investigating their own and others? teaching, all of which is supported and reflected on by teacher educators, school mentor teachers and peers. RetPro will work systematically and simultaneously towards the following two research goals: 1) to explore how the RR can be further conceptualised, implemented, developed and performed for enhancing PSTs? professional teaching repertoires (process outcomes) and 2) to explore what being part of RetPro means to all participants in terms of how they reflect in and on and about the RR processes (evaluation outcomes). Our vision is aligned with Biesta?s claim (2010) that teaching is not all about students achieving qualifications. It is also about giving students orientations to the world in conjunction with a sense of where they are in relation to the world. Biesta calls this the three domains of educational purpose; qualification in terms of deep learning, socialisation in terms of becoming part of tradition and subjectification, in terms of autonomy and judgement. RetPro therefore aims to develop PSTs teaching repertoires of purposeful actions where skills, qualities and dispositions are embodied through the RR.
