"When one is sick, we are all sick." African diakonia as a model for European diakonia?

Sammendrag

My study on the movement Women for Christ, or Femmes pour Christ, in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cameroon, is inspired by the “empirical turn” in practical theology. It is an investigation of women's diaconal practices in an African church context. I argue that the movement is Africanising diakonia. Inspired by biblical texts, the movement transforms local traditions of care in community to becoming the church’s everyday diaconal practice from below. I ask if churches in Western/Norwegian contexts can benefit from what I call Africanised diaconal approach, and merge biblical diaconal perspectives with various cultural expressions of care in reaching out to minority groups.
