Sammendrag
The concept of counterurbanisation, which is based on evidence and ideas originating from core regions of Europe, has spread into peripheral Norway as a wildfire. This has resulted in a disturbing optimism regarding future population growth in these areas. However, as will be argued in the paper, the “counterurbanisation story” of, say, Britain cannot readily be copied onto Norway. In the paper I use evidence from a longitudinal migration analysis as well as results from a survey of migration motives, to cool down any expectations of counterurbanisation as the new trend in peripheral Norway, and more importantly; to discuss the problems of model import and comparability across borders.
