Digital Monitoring of Changes in Skin Lesions

Change in cutaneous lesions is a distinct warning sign when considering the risk of malignant melanomas. We describe an automatic monitoring system that can detect and quantify such changes in dermoscopic images taken with some time interval. The approach is twofold, based on registration and difference images, and quantification of texture features, giving important medical information on the changes. The vision is a system that is reliable and affordable enough to be dispatched in GP clinics and used on high-risk patients, as well as by patients themselves.
