Tittel

Der Ursprung der Samaritaner nach den samaritanischen Quellen The Origin of the Samaritans according to the Samaritan Sources

Sammendrag

The Samaritans do not have to explain their origin, as they envisage themselves as descendants of the original Israel. Instead, the existence of the Jews demands explanation and this is found in the Chronicles, Kitab al-Tarikh and the Arabic Joshua. The background for their story seems to have been provided by the stories presented by Josephus on the origin of the Samaritans. The immediate impression is that the material is of a folkloristic type, developed as polemics or self-defence, created from older texts in order to substantiate contemporary self-understanding.
