Monika Hestad founded the creative management consultancy Brand Valley in London in 2011, and has later expanded it to Norway. Through Brand Valley she serves business clients with advice and analysis on brand and design-led innovation, and also intellectual property rights in design.

She graduated from the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO) as a sivilindustridesigner (Master of Industrial Design) in 2003. Monika soon returned to AHO with questions on the link between products and brands, and conducted research towards a PhD - which she obtained in 2008.

In 2009 she relocated to the United Kingdom and soon joined Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts London) as an Associate Lecturer on their MA Innovation Management degree. In the past five years she has also given lectures and courses in other Scandinavian countries, as well as in China, France and South Korea. In addition to teaching and working as a consultant, Monika has continued her research. She has published a number of articles, and in 2013 Gower Applied Business Research published her book Branding and Product Design: An integrated perspective, which is one of the first books to explore the link between the product and brand. The book is currently being translated into Chinese.

Since 2014 Monika is again teaching and researching at AHO, while continuing her consultancy work and international teaching engagements.

Monika is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK.
