Complex communication needs (CCN) implies speech, language, and communication impairments. CCN occurs when a person are unable to use speech to meet daily communication requirements.
The current systematic review aims to answer the following research questions:
- Which instruments have been used to measure mental wellbeing in people with CCN, and with what adaptations?
- Which instruments have been used to screen for or assess anxiety, and/or depression in people with CCN, and with what adaptations?
- What dimensions of mental wellbeing, anxiety, and depression are identified within the subscales and items of the identified instruments?
- What is the validity and reliability of these instruments, generally, and in this population?
