Tittel

UTF-2021/10156 Digital twin lab for international biomedical laboratory science education

Vitenskapelig sammendrag

Sustainable internationalization and digital competence are very important in today's education, especially for biomedical laboratory scientists (BLS). Currently, more than 30,000 foreign health and social workers in Norway makes it extra important to understand different cultures' communication style. The Great Coronavirus Pandemic of 2020 further renewed the strong demand for innovation, efficiency, and internationalization within high education of BLSs. This is equally true for other sectors like aquaculture, where the social and cultural understanding are important for sustainable global aquaculture development.

Digital Twin Lab (DTLab) is relatively low-cost simulation-based virtual lab, which is increasingly used in higher educations. DTLab will play an important role in the international distance education and enhance the international collaboration for BLS education.

The aim of this project is to develop novel DTLab-based methods for BLS education outside the classroom and for aquaculture education across geographic locations.

Results of this project will 1) strengthen long-term international collaboration and enhance competency of multicultural communication by exchange for students, staff, 2) establish an international common DTLab-based learning platform for BLS education, 3) enhance quality of relevant study programs, 4) contribute to integration between education and research and innovation by developing DTLab based learning, 5) strengthen link with students’ future working life by connecting the laboratory education with practice in the international clinical lab.

The project partners are Nankai University (Tianjin, China), BR-Federal University of Paranà

(Parana Brazil), University of New Hampshire (Durham, USA), Department of Biological Sciences Ålesund, Department of Biomedical Laboratory Science, and Department of Ocean Operations and Civil Engineering (establishing the DTLab), NTNU.
