TREAT INTERACT will develop a mental health training guide for teachers based on the WHO Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP). We will implement and evaluate the impact and implementation of the guide to prevent, identify and treat mental health problems among youth in Uganda.
This pragmatic mixed-methods study has four work packages (WP);
WP1: Adapt a school version of the mhGAP and develop implementation strategies involving stakeholder engagement through participatory action research.
WP2: Implement the adapted mhGAP school version and test implementation, service, and client outcomes using a stepped-wedge cluster-randomized controlled trial designed to randomize 18 schools into six cohorts.
WP3: Train mhGAP staff and implement and evaluate an intersectoral supervision, communication, and referral model between the health and education sector.
WP4: Develop evidence-supported implementation strategies for policymakers.
