Tittel

Fisheries-induced Evolution

Vitenskapelig sammendrag

The Specific Targeted Research Project on Fisheries-induced Evolution (FinE) will analyze the prevalence and consequence of fisheries-induced adaptive changes in exploited fish stocks of particular relevance to fisheries management in the European Union. This objective will be realized through a carefully selected set of empirical phenotypic case studies, the investigation of salient adaptive genetic variation, and through the development of new quantitative models for understanding trends and evaluating management options. The FinE project will thus maintain and extend the leading position of European research in the application of innovative evolutionary paradigms to exploited marine ecosystems, and will deliver insights and recommendations for addressing the overlooked evolutionary dimension of modern fisheries.
