A Randomized, Double-Masked Clinical Trial Comparing Four Periodontitis Treatment Strategies: 1-Year Clinical Results

The effects were tested of adjunctive metronidazole and same-day scaling and root planing in the active phase of periodontal therapy on clinical attachment level (CAL), probing pocket depths (PD) and the frequency of bleeding on probing (BoP) after 1 year. It was found that the frequency of treatment success was significantly higher in the groups that had received adjunctive metronidazole.
