Analytical applications of the catalytic reduction of nickel (II) ion in the presence of isonicotinamide

Cobalt (II) and nickel (II) ions show much similarity from the standpoint of electrochemical behaviour. If one of the above ions is present in high excess, it may strongly interfere the determination of the second one. This contribution demonstrates that nickel (II) reduction process can selectively be shifted to less negative potentials in the presence of isonicotinamide (INA). This allows one to determine nickel ion in the presence of a large excess of cobalt by means of voltammetric methods.
