Bare Nominalizations in Norwegian

This paper will focus on Bare Nominalizations (BNs). We discuss the analytic frame of such an investigation, and present two general proposals, informed by properties of BNs: The relationship between verbs and their related BNs should not be accounted for through derivation, but through a type-hierarchical organization of lexical entries in the Lexicon. Lexical semantic description should be split into two parts, ‘FREE SEMANTICS’ and ‘GRAMMAR-BOUND SEMANTICS’, the latter in many respects a reflection of grammatical structure, the former independent of grammar and more like what is pursued in ‘Lexical Semantics’.
