Background
Four examinations delivered in 2008 were
compared with 2005 as part of an ongoing
quality control of the new assessment format.
Methods
For the four end-of-year examinations (EYE)
delivered in each year the proportion of items
testing a higher level of cognition, K2
(application, analysis and problem solving), item
difficulty and high-low discrimination indices
(DI) were recorded. The mean test scores (MTS)
were noted for each examination. 460 MCQitems
used in four 2008 examinations were
compared with 389 items from 2005. Individual
KR-20 coefficients of reliability were also
evaluated.
Results
There was a lower proportion of K2-items in the
first three EYEs, 2008 versus 2005: Year 4 EYE
