Comparison of the Eddy Dissipation Concept modifications in the modelling of MILD combustion

Sammendrag

In the present work different approaches of the use of the Eddy Dissipation Concept for modelling turbulence-chemistry interaction in Moderate and/or Intense Low Oxygen Dilution (MILD) combustion regime are analyzed. Standard version of the EDC was compared with recently proposed modifications. The first method concerns the change of the model constants and generalization of this approach by using functional xpressions. In the second method standard constants were kept but non-unity reactive fraction of the fine structures was considered. This concerned original model expressions and their extensions for accounting of diluents in the coflow stream. All the approaches were tested on two Jet-in-Hot-Coflow (JHC) burners known as Adelaide (AJHC) and Delft (DJHC). The simulations were carried out with open-source CFD code OpenFOAM.
