Performing image quality in surgical telemedicine

Discussions around safe and sufficient image quality has been central for several types of telemedicine, among them surgical telemedicine. In a surgical teleconsultation where a remotely located expert surgeon communicates with the operating surgeon, the main source of information is usually a video image from the field of operation. This paper reports from a study of how the visual information is used by surgeons in telemedical laparoscopic surgery, which is keyhole surgery in the abdomen.
