What Significance Does Pupils’ Access to the Internet in School Have for Their Perseverance in Academic Work?

Sammendrag

A key question is whether schools can make use of the youngsters’ digital strengths in a way that also promotes the core functions of the school. In secondary schools, the acquisition of vertical knowledge is a core pursuit, and thereby demanding perseverance in academic work. The purpose of this article is to explore associations between school-related factors (use of Internet as a learning resource at school as well as distinct quality aspects of the teaching) via structural equation modeling. Positive effects of teaching on student perseverance depend on the extent to which the teaching positively influences students’ school attitudes. The internet contributes to a perceived conflict between students’ school ambitions and their digital habits and activities.
