Multiscale resolution -in time- rare events simulations
Sammendrag
Multi-scale approaches can be adopted both in space and/or in time. That is, different resolution can be employed in particular regions and/or for specific time intervals. Many processes in nature arise from the spontaneous transition between stable states separated by an activation barrier. If the activation barrier is sufficiently high, the transition is a rare event and the time-scale for the transition (e.g. ms) can be many orders of magnitude larger than the molecular time-scale (e.g. fs). This challenge can be addressed by multi-scale in time for simulation techniques which aim to accurately model rare events. One promising approach is the Replica Exchange Transition Interface Sampling (RETIS) method.
