This book provides insights into stories of how Norwegian communities meet a world in ever changing. The book’s multiple contributions are unique stories and analysis, but at the same time illustrations of global phenomena. The 14 chapters analyze parts of our small country in a bottom-up perspective. At the same time, they show the connection between local and global trends.
The themes of this the book spans wide - including topics related to local entrepreneurs, welfare communities under pressure, Sami youth in the city, internationalization of education, mining in the north, the importance of the aquaculture industry and how young people perceive their home and own security. The thread line that ties the book together is the local perspective.
The book is authored by researchers at Nord University, which belongs to the research group on environment, international relations, the High North and social security (MINS). The authors have written their chapters based on professional interests and current research assignments. The book reflects the wide research of the MINS group and shows how North University's research is relevant to the region.
The editors of the book are sociologist Berit Skorstad, political scientist Elisabeth Pettersen and geographer Gjermund Wollan. The book is published with the support of Nord University.
