Ocean Wave Energy Fundamentals

One of the tasks of RTN WAVETRAIN Project was to arrange a 10-day "short course" on Ocean Wave Energy Fundamentals at Chalmers Technical University (Gothenburg, Sweden), from 23 May to 3 June, 2005. The course was primarily organised for the young researchers participating in the RTN, but was open to other interested researchers as well. The first three days of the course presented a general, somewhat simplified, but rather complete, introduction to water waves and to principles and technology for wave-energy conversion, appropriate also to persons of the network not working directly with mathematical aspects of wave energy conversion. The main textbook for the course was Johannes Falnes: "Ocean Waves and Oscillating Systems: linear interactions including wave-energy extraction". Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, UK, 2002(ISBN 0-521-78211-2). Some of the lectures were given by Prof. Lars Bergdahl, the host of the event. Most of the lectures were, however, given by Prof. Emeritus Johannes Falnes, who lectured every day during the course.
