Sammendrag
The Satoh test has been used for evaluation of thermal stresses during welding. The method is based on induction heating of a round bar specimen in rigid frame device where both the temperature-time pattern and the resulting thermal stresses can be monitored by means of thermocouples and a load cell, respectively. This paper describes an uncoupled analysis of the Satoh test using the ABAQUS finite element code. The temperature was calculated by thermal analysis and used as input to the stress analysis. In the stress analysis, temperature va ries both with position and time. For the material and experimental conditions considered, a fairly good agreement was obtained between experimentally measured and calculated thermal cycles and stresses, even though the thermal expansion during the g to a transformation was neglected. In the general case, however, transformation-induced stresses must be accounted for in the mechanical model, and further refinements are therefore required.
