Sammendrag
As part of the BUAB project (Better Utilization of the Bearing Capaci ty of Roads) initiated by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, a linear elastic backcalculation procedure was developed to evaluate layer moduli based on deflection measurements by Dynaflect and FWD. T he paper presents the principles of the present version of the proced ure and how the results are used for bearing capacity calculations in Norway. Literature survey has shown that different sensor configurat ions are used for these devices. To find an optimal sensor placing, a statistical analysis on sensor configurations for FWD and Dynaflect most appropriate for Norwegian pavements is carried out and presented . With different sensor configurations, deflection measurements were carried out with FWD and Dynaflect on several bituminous pavement str uctures. The backcalculated moduli from the measurements were compare d internally and with results of indirect tensile tests. Based on the se results conclusions regarding sensor configurations for Dynaflect and FWD are drawn, and how this is handled in the backcalculation pro cedure is presented.
