Possibilities for late glacial settlement offshore Norway

The end of the last glaciation was a period with huge environmental c hanges, including redistribution of ice, sea and land. The deglaciati on gave possibilities for settlement in new areas, while other areas had to be abandoned due to sea-level rise. The conditions on the Norw egian continental shelf are described and we will not at present excl ude the possibility that some areas on the shelf may contain rich rem nants of the early human activity. It is hoped that future integrated Quaternary geological and archaeological investigations will throw n ew light on the challenging questions about early immigration on the Norwegian continental shelf.
