Modeling of wetdeck slamming for a catamaran at forward speed

Wetdeck slamming on a catamaran at forward speed under head sea conditions is studied. Model tests with a catamaran consisting of rigid structural parts with elastic connections are reported. A theoretical model is presented. The structural model is made specially for the test catamaran. Our theoretical model is verified and validated by comparing with experimental results when no slamming occurs. Four different wetdeck slamming models are persented. The influence on wetted length, forces and global acceleration response is demonstrated. The importance of Kutta condition and the added mass force during the water exit phase is pointed out.
