Sammendrag
In this paper, a program made to determine and optimize the selection of energy sources in a district heating system is introduced. The program, based entirely on MATLAB 6.1, includes a graphical interface, which makes it easily accessible to all users. The user is requested to enter the future energy demand in the Graphical User Interface (GUI) and is then given a choice of several different technologies to choose from for both heating and cooling purposes. One or several technologies can be chosen, and the appropriate variables such as price, expected lifetime, electricity- and fuel prices, interest rates etc. must be entered. The program itself then sets up all combination alternatives, disqualifies those which violate the given restrictions and calculates the operational costs and investment costs for each remaining alternative. Finally the sequence with the lowest total cost is found by using a Dynamic Programming (DP) algorithm. By running the program several times with the same energy scenario and technology choices, but changing variables such as prices and electricity costs, the program helps to provide an understanding of the energy system as a whole and the consequences even small changes may have in which development plan is considered to be the optimal choice.
