Sammendrag

Soil moisture plays an important role in predicting the fate of soil carbon accumulation in boreal forests, particularly in the face of climate change. Several key factors regulate soil carbon storage such as net primary production (NPP) and rate of decomposition but also several environmental conditions come into play in regulating carbon cycling. In this study, we test how different environmental factors affect the magnitude of soil carbon storage. We focus on two important environmental factors such as climate and soil texture. Sites: Boreal needle leaf forest sites in Norway (Hurdal: 60.366N/11.066E, Tingvoll: 63.007N/8.02E, Loeten: 60.858N/11.435E) Model: Community Land Model version 5 (CLM5) Experiment 1: Precipitation is benchmarked on top of the GSWP3 forcings using observations Experiment 2: Soil texture is manipulated using the range from observations in the region.
