CIRCULÆR - LEARNING AS A TOOL FOR FASTER DEVELOPMENT OF BETTER, SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS Applying Extended Value Stream Mapping and «Value Uncaptured» framework in a Circular Economy

Sammendrag

Despite the plethora of extant literature on themes covering sustainability aspects today, there is limited knowledge available when it comes to Lean Circular Business Models (LCBMs) development and implementation. Thus, to create a comprehensive understanding of how such processes should be handled and acted upon within Lærdal Medical (LM), the aim of the first activity in WP1 of CIRCULÆR project, was to create a baseline to departure from. Accordingly, the research team conducted an explorative investigation by the means of an iterative in-depth qualitative analysis of different functions at LM, focusing on those involved in the production of SimMan3G. This activity has been organized into three steps. In the first step, methods, and tools for creating commitment to Circular Business Model (CBM) development were conducted through informal interviews and workshops, step 2 focused on mapping the material and information flows involved during the production, while step 3 took a closer look into value opportunities that could be captured but have not been captured yet. In this report, preliminary analyses and results of these activities are presented. Cohesive challenges that remain to be solved before achieving beneficial CE strategies and smooth implementation of LCBMs are identified.
