Hybridity of transmediality: the art-based research and forms of expression in media studies

Presentation as part of IAMCR - A Roundtable on Arts-based Research in Communication and Media Studies: Strategies and Experiences, by Nico Carpentier and Johanna Sumiala As spectator, an author, and a research product mediated by art and its media mutate into each other, art-based research opens up new meaning for more conscious, involved and inclusive participation between the author, audience, material and media. The talk revisits the collaborative experience, facilitated by the production of Hernando Blandón-Gómez’s transmedia and multimodal installation on the political meaning of an image in Rancière’s thought. The talk focuses on the challenges and the potential of the comic as both a delivery channel and an art-based research methodology.
