Visualising multilingualism in English for deeper learning in Grades 1-7: teachers’ reflections

Sammendrag

In an increasingly multilingual world, teachers need tools and resources to acknowledge and integrate linguistic diversity in the primary class. In this session we will look at creative ways to integrate children’s languages and other languages in the English in Grades 1-7. This approach allows for deeper learning as it encourages connections and reflections at various levels: it enhances metalinguistic awareness and comparisons between languages, it reveals children’s linguistic biographies and valorizes children’s identities, it gives the teacher a deeper understanding of the children’s profiles and encourages in-depth reflections on English and living with and learning multiple languages.
