Artificial Intelligence (AI) was provided with the required computational power needed to deliver on the promises going back four decades. Finally, the technological limit was crossed. Unfortunately, there are limits to growth! Coincidentally, for the first time in its 50-year story semiconductor based digital computers struggle to deliver to the anticipation of growth in computational power. AI is a field where the complexity of problems clearly correlates to available computational power. As such, to be able to expand into more complex problems and larger problem sizes today's AI methods need a change in the underlying technology and most likely a revision of methods.
