Eye-Tracking and Ship Simulator Movement

Understanding the effects of motion on perception is of particular interest to the maritime domain. While displays that are used within marine systems are designed taking into account regular ‘office ergonomic’ requirements, it fails to account for safety critical moving environments such as ship bridge. In this paper we compare the effects of motion on perception using a ship simulator equipped with a motion platform. This study attempts to achieve this aim by using subjective methods as well as objective tools. This study is also in a way exploring the application of using eye-tracking data for the explicit purpose of maritime design.
