Summary
Future Fortune performance project is part of the larger scope research of a complex relationship between human and machine, and the process of commodification of emotions. How can a machine generate affect and what are the limits to how we relate to machines emotionally? How are emotions commodified through emotional analytics and metrics, and what does that produce in us in the process of interaction? The field of social robotics involves the extremely detailed design of the robot’s behavioural patterns to help communicate the robot’s (emotional) state or intentions. But what kind of relationship can it develop with the audience members? In Future Fortune a clairvoyant robot, part of the performance as a performer, challenges our trust in computer programs and algorithms that help determine our future, often unnoticed. At the same time, his presence on stage addresses the prediction that by the end of the 21st century, 70% of today's jobs will be filled by robots. In 1921, the Czech Karel Čapek introduced the concept of the robot (from robota = forced labor) in his theater classic "R.U.R.". 100 years later, we find ourselves in the future described at the time, in which AI and robotics are no longer science fiction but part of our everyday lives. In "Future Fortune", however, the robot no longer fights for its self-determination as a worker in the factory, but as a constantly self-optimizing part of the creative economy.
