Human responses to the emergence of the fiord/skerry seascapes: Comparative perspectives on the development of marine foraging societies in Scandinavia and Patagonia

Sammendrag

The fiord/skerry seascapes of the northern and southern hemispheres are created by the Pleistocene glaciations, and represent a new landscape that emerged in parallel with deglaciation. The natural history and environmental characteristics of these areas have a series of trends in common. They are all special advantageous for marine exploitation, and were all developed into habitats for marine oriented foraging societies. There are a series of parallels and differences in the earliest developments and elaboration of these maritime adaptations. Comparative perspectives on these developments are the subject of an ongoing research project that will be presented.
