Sammendrag
Improvement of the kinetics of H2 uptake and release and activation of hydrogen absorption by Mg can be reached by decreasing the grain sizes of the material. In the present work interrelations between microstructure and hydrogenation properties of the ternary eutectic alloy Mg–Ni–Mm have been studied. Alloys containing Mg, Mg2Ni and Mg-Mm intermetallics and corresponding hydrides with microcrystalline, nanocrystalline and amorphous microstructures were synthesised by applying Rapid Solidification, Equal Channel Angular Pressing and High Energy Ball Milling in hydrogen gas. The materials were characterised by application of Synchrotron X-ray Diffraction, Thermal Desorption Spectroscopy, and Scanning and Transmission Electron Microscopy. The overall best H storage performance was reached by applying HEBM in hydrogen gas.
